<HTML>Luc,
It's funny how sometimes an interesting story that's not necessarily true develops around a real ife event. That's probably what you have here.
As others have commented on, U 602 and her crew are listed as missing in the Mediterranean. The story then about this submarine would seem to have some problems, especially with a "Philipp Schuler" alive in the Balearic Islands. My guess would be that Elie Boissin was aware of the wreck and "enhanced" the story with the supposed information from Schuler. Realistically, Boissin might not even have been able to identify the wreck, knew U 602 was missing in the Western Med, and concocted the Schuler story to present a means of having an ID on the boat. (Or maybe not - just a guess.)
I would treat the subarine as an unidentified wreck and possible war grave. Don't assume it's U 602 - it doesn't have to be. Get pictures of what you can. If you can safely get pictures of the conning tower and deck gun, that can help greatly in identification. The location of the bow dive planes can also useful in identification. Actually, almost any detail can be useful.
This site has a map with links to the WWII U-boats loss information, see [www.uboat.net] (Of course, it could also be a WWI U-boat.)
Best wishes,
Michael</HTML>
