Hi Carina, U865 was attacked on this date by Liberator 'R' from RAF 86 Squadron at position 64'40n/20'20w, six depth charges were dropped, but over shot. Flak was encountered and hits to engines 1 and 2 which caught fire. The U-boat was last seen turning in tight circles but the air crew had to abort the attack. Eventually putting out the fires the crew landed safely. There are two navigators listed, WO G.F. Hough and WO H. Pordage both RAAF. U865 also managed to return, but was lost on her next patrol.
