Dear Brian:

U-96 was a Type VII C boat, commissioned on 19.9.40, and was sunk in Wilhelmshaven on 30.3.45. Served with 3 U-Flotttiles; the 7th., 24th.and 22nd, in that order. During her life had five Commanders, and went on 11 Patrols.
In the morning of the 14th.U-96 sank the independent MV WESTERN PRINCE (br 10926t).
U-96 was decommissioned in February 1945 and sunk on30.3.45 at Wilhelmshaven during a raid on the harbor by USAF bombers.
If more details are needed, let me know and I will look into the Boat's KTB.
Hope this helps your father. Walter.
