Hi P. F.,

U 669 was sunk on 7 September 1943 at 02 4 hours, by Wellington XII "W" HF115 of 407 RCAF Sqn.

Flying at 1'500 feet with visibility at two miles, the Wellington picked up a contact to port at eight miles; P/O E M O'Donnell swung his machine and lost height rapidly. At three quarter of a mile, the Leigh Light was turned on, illuminating U 669, low in the water but not submerging, in position 45 36 N/ 10 13 W. Not being in a good position to carry out his attack, P/O O'Donnell swept behind the boat turning to port, follwed by U 669's Flak. Circling, P/O Donnell took HF115 again on the path of U 669, spotting its wake at two miles; OL Kurt Köhl was by then steering his command on a zig-zag course. The Leigh Light went on at one mile, and U 669 started to dive, her conning tower still above water as five D/C's fell around it, one failing to drop. U 669 went straight to the bottom, leaving no sign of her loss.

Regards

Marc
