Hi Rainer,
DK iG was awarded for exceptional fortitude mutltiply proved and for multiple oustanding merits in troup guidance
"vielfach bewiesene aussergewöhnliche Tapferkeit oder vielfache hervorragende Verdienste in der Truppenführung"
moreover the recipient should already have had EK II and EK I and none of his acts should have been sufficient to merit the knights cross.
they have been in total 5 persons from U-129 who got this DK iG on the same day. But I could not find anything in the KTB mentioning "multiple" special events on the last patrols which could have been the reason for this numerous awards.
So its probably because they all served already for long time together on this boat.
Perhaps they even have already been together on U-37 with Niko Clausen, former commander of U-129, and participated on the trip when Ernst Kals, Chef of the 2nd flotilla and Chef of the Lorient base at the time of the award, has been Kommandantenschüler on U-37.
This is only a presumption but could be an explanation.
