Lt Bernhard Berndt

I read in "The One That Got Away" (the story of Oblt Franz von Werra of the Luftwaffe) that a U-Boat captain surrendered his submarine on it maden voyage in 1941 to a Hudson aircraft.

The book gives the U-boat captain's name as Lt Bernhard Berndt but there is no record on your database, although I saw the entry for U-570.

Lt Berndt is stated to have been forced to escape from Grizedale Hall, and then shot whilst re-escaping after capture. He is said to have been told by the Altenrat at Grizedale that he was required to escape, having betrayed his country by surrendering to an aircraft.

I visited the site recently and have photos (it's now a tourist camping area) and would be pleased to email them to interested parties.

Have the book authors made a mistake on these details?
