When leaving the area at 1935 hrs, a four-engined FW200 was sighted on the port quarter one mile away. It began firing on the Sunderland and made three attacks, the last damaging the aircraft, cutting its power lines to the rear turret. Temporary repairs brought the turret back into operation as another attack was made, although the turret had to have some manual help. In this attack the FW200 was hit by the midships gunners and it broke away. Two of the Sunderland crew had been slightly injured and the aircraft itself had five large an 18 small holes from cannon shell hits; the R/T aerial was shot away and both flaps damaged\"
