<HTML>Hi Christian

U503 was built by Deutsche Werft, Hamburg. She was launched
on 5/4/41 and commissioned into the German Navy on 10/7/41
Sunk on 15/3/1942 of Cape Race at (46*15\'N 53*15\'W)

U503 served with 2 U-Flottille, Wilhelmshaven/Lorient -July 41 to
15/3/42. She was first a training boat and later a Frontboot.
Her Commander was KL Otto Gericke- July 1941 to 15/3/42.
On the 28/2/42 U-503 left Bergen for the North Atlantic. U-503 was
heading for operations in the area of NEWFOUNDLAND.
On the 15/3/1942 she was sighted by a USN Hudson of VP-82
(CPO DF Mason) South of Cape Race.
The Argentia-based aircraft was searching for convoy ON 72 when
the U503 was first seen. Mason approached and dropped four
depth-charges from 50 feet as U503 submerged.
The stern rose out of the sea and the cicling Hudson aircraft saw
oil and huge air bubbles, followed by debris. U503 was destroyed
with no survivors all 51 crew dead.
