<HTML>The U-505 was never fitted with schnorkel. During her re-building after a bombing attack, her original conning tower was replaced by the larger type 40 tower, one with the Wintergarten platform. At the time of her capture she was fitted with 2 twin 2cm anti-aircraft guns and a 3.7cm auto cannon in the rear mount. She had T-5 \"Destroyer Killer\" acustic-homing torpedoes, too. She had Naxos/Wanze radar detector and a search radar, both of which were unreliable. Her underwater sound detector was also malfunctioning at the time of her capture. You can buy a copy of the book Steel Boats, Iron Hearts (the memoir of U-505 crewman Hans Goebeler) which gives good details about her equipment as it developed during the war (I\'m just trying to remember off the top of my head).
