Sunken U-boat of PEI, Canada?

Hello Everyone,
Doing some basic research of U-Boats that travelled in and around the St. Lawrence River I came across a story of a U-boat having gone down in a gun battle between it and a detachment of HMCN ships of the coast of Prince Edward Island. It also featured a few witness reports of some local fishermen who were allegedly approached by "Foreign sounding men in dark leather coats". These men then requested that they needed help in getting off a sandbank onto which they had driven their 'boat'. The problem is the eye witness was only a young lad of 10 years of age, his father being at sea at the time.
The men supposedly left when they heard the boy's father was not at home. Villagers claim that during the night they heard heavy guns firing and seeing lights and gun flashes. One fisherman swore that walking home along the coast he witnessed a U-boat slipping beneath the waves.
Here is my question. Is there any evidence that such a battle took place or that there were any U-boats who had come that close to the coast of PEI during WWII? The story has been around for years and it would be interesting to find out if it is true or another example of wartime folklore.
