<HTML>Dear David:
I am acquainted with four Germans who were stationed at Penang. One is former Kapitanleutnant Konrad Hoppe who commanded the base and now lives in Germany. Two others who were radio operators live in Australia. The fourth man also lives in Germany. He and one of the radio operators survived the sinking of the U-859 which was torpedoed in the approaches to Penang by HMS TRENCHANT on September 23, 1944.
If you would contact me by e-mail we can probably arrange contacts with all four men. I received a post card from Hoppe last week whereon he told me he was in the Czech Republic visiting a health spa, but he stays only about four weeks at such places.
Cordially.
