Stuart
Here's a bit more
On June 27th the coaster SS LONGBENTON (Harries Bros. & Co., Swansea) was carrying 1,200-tons of coal from Newcastle for Devonport and steaming at 7.5-knots when SM UC 63 torpedoed her at 2000hrs. The track of the missile was observed moments before it detonated level on the No.2 hold. The ship went down by the head in 2-minutes, but the entire crew of fourteen, including Captain J. Kinley, managed to abandon ship in the boats and the Aberdeen registered steamship HOGARTH (Hall, Russell & Co) picked them up. (HOGARTH was herself torpedoed and sunk by UB 107 on June 7th 1918).
Cheers Ron
