just for fun, I'll add a few points...
1) over 60 years since the end of the war, full and complete access to all surviving German U-boat diaries, orders etc, and 60 years for U-boat veterans to tell the tale...
and not one pip about U-boats re-fueling from a French sub in the Atlantic. no orders. No logs. No recollections. no nothin. From ships interned in Spain? Yes. from U-boat tankers? Yes. From the Surcouf? no...(and not from Irish ports either...another common myth)
2) Again, long after the war, with no motive to keep it secret, no ultra intercepts, no decrypts, no nothin about U-boats refueling off of the atlantic coast from US based french boats,...or anything other than from German subs.
3) and, no records of any US sub ever sinking a U-boat in the atlantic..no logs, no records, no orders, no recollections, no credit given after the war....
The story is just that, a story. Rumors become 'fact' given enough time, but that doesn't make them true.
We should probably add this to the 'myths' section.
Regards,
Kurt
