I think you referred to the sinking of SS Ceramic, which was torpedoed by U 515 on 07 december of 1942.
Henke thought it was a troopship directed to Mediterranean, full of soldiers and not carrying civilians.
Because of worsening weather conditions he didn\'t gave help to survivors and was lately accused of having shot to them by British propaganda.
When captured Henke was scared of being trialed for that.
Anyway I suggest you to read the excellent Lone Wolf by Thimothy Mulligan, which covers Henke\' s life and actions wonderfully.
