<HTML>Hi everyone,
Thank you all for your great comments and help with this issue. I certainly learned some new stuff here. Definitely not even comparable to the Peleus incident!
I do have one addition to the reasoning for the Roper\'s actions. Was it not well known that U-boat crews would often put up a good fight with their deck guns despite the sustained damage to their u-boats? This was the case with Kptlt. Ralph Kapitzky. That would justify the bombing of the ship and to deliver the coup-de-grace. Of course, no action like that is justified in humanity but with an inexperienced (in war with u-boats) commander on the Roper, you don\'t want to endanger the lives or your own crew either.
Great tangent you guys, Great stuff.
Best wishes to you all,
