<HTML>Yes. Japan never signed the Geneva convention. But I disagree that this gave them the right to behave anyway they felt like. I might also add it means that they had no right, legally or morally, to complain about how they were treated in turn.
True, the Japanese officers treated their men with a harshness that we would not tolerate in the West. But, no, they did not treat their own men as harsh as they treated the POW\'s and civilians under their control. They beat their men, but they slaughtered, raped, pillaged, and tortured those that fell under their boot.
Let\'s keep things in perspective.
