<HTML>Hi Larry,
Interesting artifact. There were six type II shipped down the Danube to Constanza for ops in the Black Sea: U9,18,19,20,
23 and 24. U9 was bombed, U18 and 24 scuttled all at Constanza. The other three were scuttled near the Turkish coast.
U21 stayed in the Baltic and was scrapped in 2/45.
Thus it is reasonable to assume, the original owner of your find was transferred from U21 to U9, or 18 or 24. My guess would be U9, since she was lost in Constanza during a Russian bombing raid. When scuttling her sisters in port, they might have had a better chance to get their personal belongings off the boat before. Regards, RB</HTML>
