<HTML>I can well believe that an aircraft might spot the wake of a schnorkel; back in the 70s I was passing through the Danish islands north of Kiel and the sea state was such that the surface of the water was like oil. Not a ripple, and it was even possible to make out the disturbance patterns in the water from passing vessels which had taken that route some hours earlier.
I have no doubt at all that an aircraft would be attracted to the wake of a schnorkel in those conditions as if it were a speed boat - and from what I understand of the effectiveness of schnorkels there was very likely a close similarity in speed.
