As the only (I believe) survivor of time spent in the Kriegsmarine (albeit as a POW) who is active on this site, I offer this comment.
Aboard the HSK MICHEL, there was a \'thwartship passageway in the officers\' quarters. On the forward bulkhead was a painting of Adolph, underneath hung a small drum and a bugle. All hands, upon passing this shrine, gave it a quick salute.
Pull your right elbow against your rib cage, bring your fore arm up to about 70-degrees, flip your hand to the vertical, and that is what they did. More like a \"stop\" sign!
