<HTML>Hi Marcus
\"Donitz sometimes sent personal wireless messages to his captains while they were on patrol. When the famous Günther Prien´s wife gave birth to a daughter, the following signal was sent: \"Ein U-Boot ohne Sehrohr ist heute angekommen\",(A submarine without periscope arrived today.).\"
Time ago I posted other \"quote\" in this forum for another thread.
I consider interesting to repeat for you:
\"In January 1943 part of B5 (escort) group had escorted a convoy of nine tankers on a new convoy route from Trinidad to Gibraltar.German U-boats found this convoy
and attacked it, sinking seven of the nine tankers. The four-ship escort was so small that a U-boat trailed the convoy quite openly by day and, at once stage, an officer on the destroyer HMS Havelock ordered a light signal to be flashed to the
U-boat, \"Why don´t you go away?\".
Back came the reply, \"Sorry,we have our orders.\".\"
Source \"CONVOY : the battle for convoys SC.122 and HX.229\" by Martin Middlebrook
When the convoy PQ17 received from Admiralty the order to scatter, there was a
brief exchange of flashing messages between the commanders from two of the ships of the close escort:
Commander of British submarine P-614:
\"I think to keep on surface as long as possible\"
Captain John Broome close escort commander aboard British destroyer HMS Keppel (SOE):
\"Me too\"

Best regards
