Bahamas Uboat haven

<HTML>On a recent visit to Darby Island in the Exuma chain we saw some huge mooring posts, massive concrete dock and 40\'s era raido equipment that the locals say was for the use of Uboats. The nearby Exuma sound is very deep and the water at the dock is deep but in between is not. Could the site have been unfinished or only for midget subs? Maybe the air patrols from florida did not come this far East?
It has raised my intrest in WWII and the Uboat war off my home town of Miami.
My parents recall seeing burning ships and oil on Miami Beach on a regular basis during the early days of the war and the fear was for the water supply etc.
Anyone know about Darby Island?
