<HTML>Hi Visje--
Oops! I guess it wouldn\'t have been internment at that point, because Germany had just invaded Belgium and the Netherlands, and Holland would no longer have been neutral. So I guess \"help\" would be more accurate. In any case, O-15 (and several others, whose numbers I don\'t recall, but I have recorded elsewhere) came under British control, just as that part of the French fleet which escaped German appropriation were (notably Surcouf).
O-15, however, did not object to being assigned a British hull no. (N-15) and DID operate indendently in the Atlantic. I know of no Axis conflicts, but she DID come to theUS for a major overhaul in May of 1942 at Philadelphia, and she DID
transit the Cape cod canal inearly June (I have an original photo of her being escorted through the Canal). And she DID cross Mass. Bay and the Gulf of Maine, mamking Halifax, NS, by June 14 or 15 (I have the translation from her log, which came from the Dutch National Archives.)
It IS an intersting event.
