<HTML>Hi,
Just wanted to add one more unfortunate gruesome item to my comments to make a point. I had just remembered that in the same documentary about the suicide rates, women in Berlin and the still remaining German held provinces towards the end of the war were killing their own children by throwing them in lakes and rivers. They would go through suicide together most of the time. I can\'t even imagine that. There was a huge feeling of uncertainty and all were afraid of the Russians, so much so to drive them to suicide. That amazes me. Those must have been some emotionally strong women to be able to do that.
So how does this relate to u-boats? I do recall that in many of the u-boat first hand account type books, everytime the men had furloughs they talked to Russian front soldiers and heard of some of these horrific stories.
Best wishes,
