<HTML>I contacted Herr Hardegen a couple years ago thru the Archiv in Altenbruch. Op. Drumbeat is indeed THE book to read of his adventures. But, as previously mentioned, he is not exactly keen on answering mail anymore. He really prefers to be left alone these days. At his age (if I were in my 80\'s---getting 50-100 letters a week), I would not want to be contacted either.

If you insist on contacting him, I would forward a letter via the U-Boot-Archiv in Altenbruch---with appropriate donation for their time---and not necessarily expect a reply.

If you would be content with being a real part of U-boat history at this point in time....I\'d recommend joining Gummi\'s excellent Members Section on this site and also joining the U-Boot-Archiv in Altenbruch as a full member. Such memberships help keep the memory of the U-boats alive.

I belong to both, and will continue to do so as long as these memberships exist. They are MORE than worth the little price.
