<HTML>The reference to Otto Stengel is entirely accurate. US authorities engaged in torture of German POWs. Criminal acts under the Geneva Convention. But we won the war, and so no one was hung.
Yet 7 U-boat men were eventually hanged at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, USA, just after the war was over. These 7 men did what any other POW would be expected to do--silence an informer among them.
I have read their account, seen the movie special, and visited their graves nearby with flowers and flags just this last September.
It is a sad story of WWII. These men should have been returned home to Germany once the war was over.
