U-505 and captured U-Boat crews

I understand U-505\'s crew were kept seperate from other captures crews to hide the fact that the U-Boat had been captured.

I take it the crews mail was either heavily censored/interfered with\'or this crew never got/sent mail.Also is the interference or normal mail(for example how are you doing mum?) a breach of the Geneva Convention

On this subject was there a secret code/codes that U-Boat crewmen were taught in the event of capture and being able to send secret messages back to Germany?
I seem to remember something about Kretschmer having some sort of spyring from behind barbed wire.
