<HTML>The first \"encounter\" between a US battleship and a U-boat was on 20 June 1941, when Rolf Mützelburg´s U-203 chased the USS Texas in position 800 miles south-southwest of Iceland. The Texas was screened by one destroyer at the time. No shots were exchanged and Mützelburg gave up on the chase after a 16 hour pursuit. This could be considered as the first encounter between a US battleship and a U-boat.
