I believe you are correct with respect to the sequence of design of the type VII U-boat and the hedgehog; but the general principle of reduced probability of a non-homing weapon striking a smaller target also applies to earlier weapons such as the small contact-fuzed bombs regarded as a primary RAF ASW weapon when the type VII was designed. =AL=</HTML>
