By the time this message was sent, the only U Boat to patrol in the Pacific, U-862, had already returned to it\'s base in Japanese occupied territory. Those that had not already left for Germany were taken over by the Japanese--U-862 was actually one of these. It was given a Japanese designation, as were a number of other U-Boats which the Japanese obtained.
I believe that those returning to Europe generally entered the nearest Allied port. I know of at least one which entered a South African port.
