in the seas around Italy there are several, of any size, silent leftovers of WW 1 & 2. They are war graves.
Maybe that rumour spread because the Marina Militare Italiana provided the unbelievable “German destroyer” for the questionable U-571 movie, or because some of the postproduction work was done at the Cinecittà facilities in Rome. I believe the full-scale replica of the U-571 is in Malta, which is an independent State in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea situated not far away from Sicily.
Old Soviet submarines, cloned from German blueprints (Type XXI) have been scrapped in a ship graveyard between Venice and Trieste. (Good steel indeed, just a bit radioactive).
