English Speaking Crewmembers?

<HTML>Does anyone have any ideas on how many English speaking crew members would have been found on a typical U-boat? It seems fairly common to have at least one officer who could speak fluent English (or did I just get that impression from old movies?) Just guessing, I would assume that out of 50+ crewmen on a Type IX, three or four crewmen would have been able to speak English...maybe more. Did the Kriegsmarine have a language school like the U.S. has the Defense Language Institute? Or maybe the easier answer would be what percentage of the German population could speak English in the 1940\'s? It seems likely that today, out of any group of educated Germans involved in a technical activity, about one-half would be fluent English speakers. Just my impression. Thanks or Vielen Dank for your help.</HTML>
