Marine Infantry Divisions - U-boat crews.

<HTML>Hi,

This one is on topic - which is a change for me!

I know that U-boat crewmen served - towards the war\'s end - in Marine Infantry Divisions and were thus committed to the front line as soldiers.

Can any one here give me some idea of a time scale for this? I\'m looking in theory for crews based around Gdynia ( or thereabouts ) in the period of mid \'44- say May / June / July although any info on transfers away from boats would be useful.

It doesn\'t have to be Gdynia - other bases could do.

Anyone any info? I\'ve looked at Feldgrau but it\'s not specific, with most Divisions formed later. Surely at this time crews would have been committed elsewhere?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, or links to that info.

Thanks!

Aye,

John</HTML>
