Some years ago I watched army engineers blow up the old mine laying U-Boat
just off the harbour entrance here in Sunderland.The onlookers were very subdued, it was rather a sad occasion. However, consultations had previously taken place with both German governments, as the U-Boat was an official war grave.
At present the Uk Government is looking at proposals to classify many such sites as Military Exclusion Zones, in a bid to prevent damaged caused by \"rogue divers\" and fishing vessel nets.
