<HTML>Hi Peter

U-526 was a Type IX C-40 U-boat. She was built by Deutsche Werft
in Hamburg. Launched on 3/6/1942 and then Commissioned 12/8/42.
Her Commander was KL Hans Moglich. 1 patrol: sunk 1 ship.

U-526 served with 4 U-Flottille, Stettin -Aug 1942 to Jan 1943
and then 10 U-Flottille, Lorient-Feb 1943 to 14/4/43+
Sunk 14/4/43 SW of the IIe de Groix (47*30\'N 03*45\'W)

In early April 1943, U-526 was refuelling by U-463 in the central North
Atlantic waters for a return to base trip. Homeward-bound on the
14/4/43, U-526 was sunk when she struck a British mine SW of IIe
de Groix, probably the only loss to a British mine for the whole period
of 1943-44..? There were 12 survivors, 9 of whom were badly injured.
Two of the survivors were picked (near frozen) by U-513. The CO
of U-526 and 41 crewmen died with the boat.
Hope this helps..more info available on U526 ops if needed? But no crew
info.

Cheers Joe Brennan
