<HTML>Hi ALL
I did read this story a some time ago, that the crew of U-470 were
abandoned at sea after their U-boat was sunk by enemy aircraft,
dropping depth-charges on U-470.
HMS Vidette & Duncan were sent to pick up survivors from U-470.
However, like all warships at sea at that time, they had a \"fear\"? of
a sudden torpedo attack from another U-boat, if they stopped at sea
too pick up German U-boat surivors...
It is very sad that only two survivors were pick up, the two destroyers
being obliged to rejoin the escort of convoy ON 206. Unfortunate, the
British destroyers did not dother doing a wide area search for the
crew of U-470, 46 men from the U-boat were left to died in the
water...!
cheers, Joe Brennan
