I agree totally with your post John, I would love to say that you and Kurt put the discussion facts in a nutshell even if it may have been a co-conut to take it all. As a Vet who has been in the situation outlined in the debate it may shock some to know that many of our shipmates were so to speak helped on their way when injuries were to bad to hope to save them. The camaraderie of your mates was the one thing which kept you sane knowing that you all would always be treated in the same way if it came to the crunch. I still have guilt over the ones we left behind but it is something you have to live with.
