<HTML>Unarmed don\'t mean diddly. I know a good portion of combat medics in Viet Nam were armed and as far as I know, all Air Force Para-Rescue Jumpers (PJs) were and still are armed.(Yes, I know. That was because THEY were getting shot at. Back to the old question of do you sink to the lower level when the other guy doesn\'t follow the rules.) The attack on U-156 and company was a common sense call. The aircraft commander of that B-24 was ordered to attack by higher ups hundreds of miles away. I think the A/C should have disregarded the orders as being unlawful (We\'re back to the crux of this thread, aren\'t we?) or .... dropped his ordinence a distance away and told the higher ups his aiming bio-rythems were off that day.
