Type XXVI

<HTML>In a documentary on U-Boats (on National Geographic channel, submarine week)
I heard a U-Boat veteran talk about the Type XXVI, his U-Boat had been launched on the 1st of May, 1945, he claimed that in the port he departed from, the latest U-boats were stationed, including a type XXVI, On this site is is reported that construction had begun, but no Type XXVI had been completed before war\'s end.
He may have been mistaken, and confused it with a XXI or XXIII.

Could someone tell me if a prototype had been constructed before the end of the war?</HTML>
