<HTML>The type XXVI was complicated as there were 2 different projects.
One by Professor Walter designated type XXVIW\'and the other the official design for type XXVI.

Type XXVIW was a walter design for an ocean going U-Boat with a displacement of 1160 tons.It was based on the type XVIIA\'but with a longer hull and a different type of bridge. It would have been the first U-boat with out a conning tower\'placing the commander in the control room. There would have been 10 21in torpedo tubes\'4 in the bow and 3 each side facing aft.The XXVIW was intended to be built in sections and the sections of the first 4(U-4501 TO U-4504) were under construction as the was ended.

Type XXVIA(OFFICIAL DESIGN) was to have displaced 1124 tons and be armed with 12 21in torpedo tubes\' 6 in the bow and 3 each side facing aft. These tubes were loaded externally/

Type XXVIB was identical to type A but the tubes were loaded internally in the usual way.

Type XXVIE had 2 different versions.
Both were to have more powerful electric motors.
XXVIE1was to have had a MAN diesel and would have had 8 torpedo tubes.
XXVIE2 was to have a Deutz diesel and 12 torpedo tubes.

Hope this helps.
