Is it possible that the German U-boat freighter mentioned was the \"Deutschland\" of world war one?
She was used as merchant between Germany and USA in 1916, later used as combat U-boat U-155 and was captured at the end of the war by the British. She was later shown to the public in several ports and was scrapped in 1922.
