<HTML>Perhaps something to consider, too, is that a Typ VIIc had a length of 67.1 metres and a beam of 6.2 metres. A modern 688 class boat (Los Angeles), by way of contrast, is 109.7 metres long, with a 10.6 metre beam. A missile boat is considerably larger. Modern boats also carry their extreme beam along a much larger portion of their hull. It would hardly be surprising if they could be seen at a somewhat greater depth under proper conditions.
