<HTML>As far as I\'m aware, the only countries that seriously made an effort to carry aeroplanes on submarines were Japan and France. The problem, aside from vulnerability to attack during launching and recovery, was that you needed a huge (by 1930s - \'40s standards) submarine. The French version also mounted a pair of 8\" guns in a turret in front of the tower.
