<HTML>I have an account that comes very close (although I\'m cheating a bit :)

When the Dutch steamer Volendam was damaged in late 1940 by Adi Schnee (U-60), a torpedo was found on the hull without the warhead. Needless to say, it was immediately requisitioned by the Royal Navy. This is what happened:

Schnee attacked a convoy and sighted the passengership, at which he fired two torpedoes with only minimal time interval. The first struck the ship, creating a large hole in the side of the ship. The second torpedo was only a few meters after the first one. The explosion of the first torpedo ripped off the warhead of the second, which then entered through the hole in the side, where it was found later.
Luckily the second didn\'t hit, because the Volendam was packed with children.

Yeah, I know, I\'m cheating winking smiley</HTML>
