<HTML>Hi,
But ofcourse
Tanker Lothringen was, as you said, the former tanker Papendrecht, under construction for Van Ommeren.
A tanker ( 10746 tons ), and she worked as a supply ship for U-boats, BISMARCK and PRINZ EUGEN 1941. She was the last of the 7 supply ships for BISMARCK on her last cruise to be located. On 15th June 1941 LOTHRINGEN surrendered and was captured after interception by light cruiser HMS DUNEDIN and aircraft of carrier HMS EAGLE in position 19.49 North - 25.31 West. Under construction at the RDM dockyard (no. 200) in Rotterdam, launched April 17 1940, recquisitioned November 10 1940. Commissioned in Tross Schiff Verband on December 9, renamed Lothringen on December 16.
Displacement: 10746 / 17500 t
Dimensions: 151,22 x 22,35 x 8,63 m
Engine: 3700 hp = 12,5 knots
She became the Empire Salvage, but I have only a few details regarding her service in this service. Only thing I know was that she was in Algiers in July 1943.
In reserve fleet May 16 1945, and returned to owner under her old name. Scrapped in Japan in 1964.
