<HTML>Since when is it a war crime to kill enemy soldiers on the battlefield?
These were uniformed enemy combat troops on the way to the front. If they survived and got to shore they would be re-armed, sent into battle, and kill allied soldiers.
I admit strafing soldiers while they are momentarily helpless in the water seems less than sporting from the perspective of our modern comfortable lives, but that is war. War is not about being sporting, or giving everyone an equal chance, but about winning.
If this was wrong then it is always wrong to ever strafe or bomb enemy soldiers.
This was an act of war. Harsh, but perfectly legitimate. A uniformed soldier is a legit target at any time in any location in any situation from the moment he dons his uniform till he throws his hands up in surrender (marked hospitals excepted).
If they had been civilians that would have been different.</HTML>
