History books do indeed mention incidents of rescued Japanese attacking their rescuers, and of Japanese in the water firing on American warships. These can be found in Morison and others. I could find page numbers if you\'d like.
An omission from the posts I\'ve read so far is that much of the machine-gunning was conducted by American PT boats.
