Cavity magnetron

<HTML>The British were pushing microwave radar as fast as they could so there is little chance for a faster timetable. Until the cavity magnetron was invented by the British in 1940, radar was limited to a wavelength of around 50 cm. which severely limited the use of airborne radar due to the large antenna size. Practical ground observation radar had to wait for the microwave technology made possible by the cavity magnetron. The invention of the cavity magnetron was not at all obvious, so it is difficult to accelerate it. It also takes some time to go from the discovery of a new scientific principal to a mass produced product, even in wartime. So we must conclude that a significant increase in the speed of British radar development was not possible.
