<HTML>I\'d like to thank Ken Dunn and Gudmundur who provided the only posts to my post that were not insults and actually adressed my points. Kens particularly had some very valid points vis a vis what I said. He identifys one sub co that can probably hold his head up high. For all those that just said insults then I cant help you sorry. WRT to Gudmundur\'s post, was i too inflammatory then I would have to say yes I plead guilty and regret it but we are all from very different backgrounds and have different views where a moral war starts and an immoral war finishes. My view on this is that when the loss of human life is under discussion it shouldnt be celebrated. No death in war is worth positive praise (particularly not in hind sight) Many people dont agree with this but that is just my personal view. If that seems harsh on the agressors in any war (particularly those that quoted vietnam war stuff too me) thats just the way I am. I grew up in a family that protested actively against the Vietnam war. I did my first march at age 3 in 1967 in a pram and cant fathom the attempts to accuse me of double standards(kent state etc). Many of my direct family suffered greatly in ww2 including two killed in convoys. Not one of these people had the luxury of a government which could choose to go to war. In subsequent years I have been personally involved in peace keeping/inforcement in Somalia and other places and this has only confirmed my views about war. Perhaps seeing what an RPG does to a childs face defuses enthusiasm for medals etc. On this basis I just say the Atlantic battle is still a great subject. Talk strategy thats great, talk technical thats great, talk options fine but bear in mind that every uboat triumph was a horrible thing for the world as it was in the early 40\'s of the last century and dont forget what the ultimate goal of the organisation was. As time passes and memories fade it is more important than ever that this occurs. Of course if this point of view is unacceptable to the board then I will depart with a great degree of pride. (and the supportive emails I have received from ww2 veterans )
Finally I would like to quote Eric Raeder who agreed that on september 23 1936 Germany formally agreed to be bound in every respect by the London Protocol which was additionally confirmed by the Anglo-German Naval agreement which specifically prohibited the sinking of merchant shipping without warning. Food for thought me thinks?</HTML>
