Sorry I can't answer details about final disposition of U-511 and UIT-24
However my father was on U-511 from begining to transfer to IJN in 1943 and became LI on UIT-24 with a mixed Italian/German crew under KaptLT Pahl (also ex-U511). Both died in USA, my Father, ObLT Ernst J. Staab in 1971 and Pahl in Oregon circa 2006.
