Dear Mark,
Ref your post at 0940 on 31 March.
You said that U-505 was in Philadelphia in June 1945, but do you have any specific dates?
I ask because in the book "U-505: The Final Journey" by James Wise, there is a picture of an actual War Bond issued in Philadelphi on 25 May 1945.
It maybe that this was U-505's first or second day in the City, and that it stayed there until early June. So it would be very helpful if you could possibly give me a more precise "fix" - please.
Overall, I am getting on quite well with the time line (dates and places) for U-505's life between May and December 1945 - but there are still a few gaps to fill and a few contradictions to resolve.
I think more will be revealed when I get access to the Deck Logs of the escort vessels, but that may take a few more weeks of patience!
Yours aye
Derek
